2002 Spring 400 km

This classic route is a demanding and sometimes mean and nasty course to complete within 27 hrs. It proved to be just that for this year 29 riders, 27 of whom had the chance to do the ride in beautiful weather. All riders had a challenge to endure the hot and cold weather, overcome multiple flats, slog through the moments of bonking, and push our limits on fighting sleepiness and delirium to reach the finish. But at the end, the first sentence that came from the riders was "that was a great course", or "I can't believe how beautiful the weather was" or " what a fantastic ride". We should congratulate those who completed the ride, but more importantly, we should salute those who did not finish , yet rode into the early morning hours until they could ride no more. -Ken Carter, brevet organizer.
